VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO WELCOME HIS EXCELLENCY SIMBI VEKE MUBAKO, THE AMBASSADOR OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZIMBABWE, TO THE UNITED STATES ON THE OCCASION OF HIS VISIT TO THE PALMETTO STATE.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are very pleased to learn that His Excellency Simbi Veke Mubako will be visiting South Carolina this week; and
Whereas, born and raised in Zimbabwe, Ambassador Simbi Veke Mubako was educated at local Christian mission schools; and
Whereas, after working for two years as a journalist, he went to Lesotho for his university studies. He obtained a B. A. degree from the University of South Africa and proceeded overseas to study law. He acquired several degrees from University College of Dublin, the London School of Economics, Harvard University, and Knightsbridge University, United Kingdom, and a diploma from the University of Oslo; and
Whereas, Dr. Mubako became a law professor during his ten-year tenure in academia. He taught at the University of Zambia, University of Southampton in England, and the National University of Lesotho. He also gave lectures at various universities in the United States, including Williams College in Massachusetts, where he recently conducted a winter school course in the political history of Southern Africa; and
Whereas, at Zimbabwe's independence in 1980, Dr. Mubako was recalled home and was appointed to the Cabinet as Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs. After a long period in government service, Dr. Mubako spent two years as a private legal practitioner before he was elevated to the bench as Judge of the High Court. He remained in that post for six years; and
Whereas, he was appointed Zimbabwe's Ambassador to the United States in 1999. He is married to Dr. Hazel B. Mubako, a Harare family doctor. They have three sons and one daughter; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like Ambassador Mubako to know that South Carolina is delighted to have him as our guest and hope he has a warm and productive visit to our State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly welcome His Excellency Simbi Veke Mubako, the Ambassador of the Republic Of Zimbabwe, on the occasion of his visit to the Palmetto State.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to His Excellency Simbi Veke Mubako, the Ambassador of the Republic Of Zimbabwe.
