Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Ms. JoAnn DuBose of Clarendon County; and

Whereas, she was the beloved daughter of Harold Charlton DuBose and Edna Mae Morris DuBose; and

Whereas, Ms. DuBose attended elementary school in Moncks Corner, graduated from East Clarendon High School in Turbeville in 1967, graduated from Winthrop College in Rock Hill, and earned her Master's degree from Clemson University; and

Whereas, though she grew up poor, her parents instilled in her and her dear brother, Sonny, the importance of an education and that only one thing in life was impossible: "That's for a butt-headed cow to hook you"; and

Whereas, because of her appreciation for education and her love of children, Ms. DuBose became an elementary school teacher in the Greenville County school system; and

Whereas, in 1989, she returned to Clarendon County to care for her mother and began teaching in the elementary schools of Clarendon County School District 2; and

Whereas, Ms. Dubose contributed to her community in many ways throughout her lifetime spent in South Carolina; and

Whereas, she was a faithful and active member of the South Carolina Education Association, served as a member of the Board of Directors from 1994 through 1998, and as a member of the Executive Committee from 1995 through 1997; and

Whereas, Ms. DuBose was honored to serve as President of the Clarendon County Education Association from 1998 through 2000; and

Whereas, she loved her community, state, nation, family, and all children, and through her kindness and generous spirit, she touched so many lives; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is proud to honor the many contributions that Ms. DuBose made to the Clarendon County community and the State over her lifetime. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express the profound sorrow of the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives on the death of Ms. JoAnn DuBose of Clarendon County and extend their deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.
