A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND MILLER COMMUNICATIONS, INC. AND ALL OF THE "ICE STORM" BROADCASTERS AND TO THANK THEM FOR THE SERVICE THEY PROVIDE TO THE PALMETTO STATE.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize South Carolinians who are dedicated to giving their time and energy to helping protect our communities and the people of the Palmetto State; and

Whereas, during the ice storm in January 2004, Miller Communications, Inc. and its broadcasters immediately facilitated distribution of emergency information and signals over its public airways, providing large geographic signal coverage to areas of South Carolina; and

Whereas, immediately recognizing the pending natural disaster of Ice Storm 2004, Miller Communications, Inc. took action to provide emergency broadcasts and unselfishly volunteered their time to serve the public interest of the citizens of South Carolina; and

Whereas, Miller Communications, Inc. provided information to the South Carolina public for over fifty-six hours and used multiple radio stations to broadcast to a very large population of South Carolina citizens, some of whom were in need of heat, food, or medical attention; and

Whereas, opening the airways to public officials, government leaders, and South Carolina citizens, Miller Communications, Inc. enabled them to provide public safety information and assurance that our government leaders, electrical power companies, and public officials were doing all they could to restore order and safety; and

Whereas, by broadcasting in an "all information/talk" mode, radio stations of Miller Communications, Inc. were able to broadcast signals concentrated in areas of the State that were the worst damaged and most tragically affected by the 2004 ice storm; and

Whereas, Ice Storm 2004 emergency radio coverage included a large area of our State including the Pee Dee, Midlands, and Low Country and also included a geographic area from Barnwell to Florence and Johnsonville to Richland County; and

Whereas, the dedicated broadcasters of Miller Communications, Inc. include Michael Russ Carter, Johnny Green, John Elbert McLeod, Derrick Anthony Rhems, Vakenya Latrell Brunson Rhems, Derek Glenn Burress, Dave Lorin Baker, Kevin Douglas Ireland, Charles Russell Wood, Daniel Forrest Griffin, James Terry Bass, Wendy Ann Harris, David Grant Dalesky, Anseanee Sherry Copeland, Vickie Ann Graham, and Theresa Leah Kuhel Miller; and

Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the great achievements and lasting service of these dedicated broadcasters and Miller Communications, Inc. who work to ensure the safety of the citizens of this State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend Miller Communications, Inc. and its "ice storm" broadcasters and thank them for the service they provide to the Palmetto State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Miller Communications, Inc..
