A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND LAMAR HIGH SCHOOL FOR ITS OUTSTANDING SPORTS PROGRAM THROUGH THE YEARS AND TO RECOGNIZE THE LAMAR FOOTBALL TEAM FOR BEING THE 2002 AND 2003 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONS, THE LAMAR BOYS TRACK TEAM FOR BEING THE 2003 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONS, THE LAMAR BOYS BASEBALL TEAM FOR BEING THE 2003 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONS, AND THE LAMAR GIRLS TRACK TEAM FOR BEING 2003 CLASS A STATE RUNNER-UP.

Whereas, Lamar High School has had one of the most outstanding sports programs of any high school in this State regardless of classification; and

Whereas, one example of this is the fact that the Lamar football team won the 2002 and 2003 Class A state championship, the Lamar boys track team won the 2003 Class A state championship, the Lamar boys baseball team won the 2003 Class A state championship, and the Lamar girls track team were the 2003 Class A state runner-up; and

Whereas, J. R. Boyd, the football and baseball coach, Charlie Poole, the boys track coach, and Marshall King, the girls track coach, each were named Region 4-A Coach of the Year, and additionally Coaches Boyd and Poole each received the Coach of the Year award in their respective sports; and

Whereas, the Silver Foxes have won these championships because of great athletes, wonderful coaches, and a community that provides loyal support to this excellent school; and

Whereas, the entire Lamar community will honor the fine athletes and coaches of these four teams at a "Day of Champions" to be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 21, 2004; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and congratulate Lamar High School, each of these fine teams, and all the athletes and coaches of this outstanding institution for their wonderful success over the years in high school athletics. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives commend Lamar High School for its outstanding sports program through the years and recognize the Lamar football team for being the 2002 and 2003 Class A state champions, the Lamar boys track team for being the 2003 Class A state champions, the Lamar boys baseball team for being the 2003 Class A state champions, and the Lamar girls track team for being 2003 Class A state runner-up.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the principal of Lamar High School.
