VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-150-375 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A STUDENT WHO RECEIVES A CERTAIN SCHOLARSHIP SHALL REPAY THE AMOUNT OF THE SCHOLARSHIP TO THE STATE WITHIN THIRTY DAYS IF THE STUDENT FAILS TO COMPLETE A SEMESTER DURING THE STUDENT'S FIRST YEAR AND TO PROVIDE EXCEPTIONS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 150, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-150-375. (A) A student who receives a scholarship pursuant to Section 59-150-360 or Section 59-150-370 shall repay the amount of the scholarship to the State within thirty days if the student fails to complete a semester at any time during the student's first year of post-secondary education.
(B) Subsection (A) does not apply to a student who drops out due to a valid medical reason supported by documentation from a doctor, a death in his immediate family, or other exigent circumstances."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
