A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO ELAINE THENA OF PICKENS COUNTY ON BEING NAMED THE 2004 SOUTH CAROLINA CAREER WOMAN OF THE YEAR AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HER IN ALL OF HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were pleased to learn that Elaine Thena was named the 2004 South Carolina Career Woman of the Year by the South Carolina Business and Professional Women's Club; and

Whereas, after being named the 2004 Pickens County Career Woman of the Year out of ten nominees, Ms. Thena went on to capture the state award after her impressive speech at the state competition; and

Whereas, since 1997, Ms. Thena has served as the CEO for the Pickens County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs and as CEO, Ms. Thena directs services to individuals living in Pickens County who are disabled because of developmental disabilities, head and spinal cord injuries, and related conditions; and

Whereas, in addition to her work with the Board of Disabilities and Special Needs, Ms. Thena is also a member of the Council for Exceptional Children, Who's Who in Executives/Business Leaders, and a founding member and treasurer of Hands on Pickens County; and

Whereas, Ms. Thena has also won the South Carolina Human Service Providers Leadership Award, the SC DOT Best Paratransit System of the Year Award, and the United Way Chairman Award; and

Whereas, an Alumni of Leadership Pickens County, Ms. Thena is also a board member of the Red Cross and a Rotarian, and her service to her community and the State has been unparalleled. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to Elaine Thena of Pickens County on being named the 2004 South Carolina Career Woman of the Year and extend best wishes to her in all of her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Elaine Thena of Pickens County.
