A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

APPLAUDING BROOME HIGH SCHOOL'S GARRETT BLAKELY OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY ON HIS SOUTH CAROLINA CLASS AAA GOLD MEDAL WIN IN THE 400 METERS.

Whereas, Garrett Blakely of Spartanburg County has been running for Broome High School's track team since his freshman year; and

Whereas, in just his first year he won the Region III Class AAA title and was runner-up at the state level; and

Whereas, over the course of his career he won the region championship two more times and set Spartanburg County records in the 400 meters; and

Whereas, his 2004 county mark of 48.1 seconds bettered even his gold medal state effort of 48.45 seconds; and

Whereas, that top finish in the State Class AAA 400 meter capped a competitive career that included a third place and two second places before his convincing final showing. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly applaud Broome High School's Garrett Blakely of Spartanburg County on his South Carolina Class AAA gold-medal win in the 400 meters.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Garrett Blakely.
