Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize South Carolinians who are dedicated to giving their time and energy to helping build a sense of togetherness and developing young minds in their communities; and

Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the great achievements of those who care for the children of the Palmetto State and to encourage these individuals who continue to inspire children year after year; and

Whereas, Mildred Bateman Lewis has been a shining star in caring for the children of Florence and will be retiring from Ebenezer Baptist Church Daycare on May 21, 2004, after thirty-four years of exceptional service; and

Whereas, a dedicated member of Pisgah United Methodist Church, Ms. Lewis has four children, Jean Blackman, Jimmy Lewis, Gary Lewis, and Linda Johnson, and she has four brothers, Albert, Jeff, Billy, and Tommy Bateman; and

Whereas, throughout her years at Ebenezer Baptist Church Daycare, Ms. Lewis has been a teacher and the assistant director, and she has taught hundreds of children, including three generations; and

Whereas, over the past thirty-four years, Mildred Bateman Lewis has been a stable force for the daycare and has touched hundreds of lives throughout South Carolina. Her presence will be sorely missed upon her retirement. Now, therefore,
