A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE JEREMY BRYAN OF SUMTER FOR WINNING THE 141-POUND WEIGHT CLASS IN THE NATIONAL GOLDEN GLOVES BOXING TOURNAMENT IN KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HIM IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, to be a champion in any sport requires determination, commitment, and belief in oneself, and to become a champion in boxing, an individual also must have outstanding mental and physical abilities; and

Whereas, Jeremy Bryan of Sumter proved that he is a champion boxer when he captured the title in Kansas City, Missouri, at the National Golden Gloves boxing tournament on May 9, 2004, in the 141-pound weight class; and

Whereas, a student at Lakewood High School, he boxes at the Sumter Optimist Club where he was honored for his championship win on Wednesday, May 19, 2004, declared "Jeremy Bryan Day" in the City of Sumter; and

Whereas, his title came on the strength of five wins in seven days, with each match seeing him dominate his opponents: Jeremy won each bout by a 5-0 scoring, meaning that all five judges who judged his bouts saw him as the clear winner; and

Whereas, only the fourth Sumter athlete to ever bring home a national title, Jeremy Bryan displayed humility and grace upon his return home as a champion, and his athletic accomplishments have proved that he is a most deserving National Boxing Champion. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commend and congratulate Jeremy Bryan of Sumter for winning the 141-pound weight class in the National Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament in Kansas City, Missouri, and extend best wishes to him in all of his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Jeremy Bryan of Sumter.
