A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE MEMBERS OF GREENWOOD'S EMERALD HIGH SCHOOL BOYS SOCCER TEAM AND THEIR COACHING STAFF ON CAPTURING THE 2004 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO COMMEND THEM ON THEIR DEDICATION TO BEING A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM.

Whereas, being a member of a sports team allows young people to have the opportunity to learn the skills of cooperation and teamwork while developing athletic talents; and

Whereas, to be a champion in soccer, all members of the team must have outstanding leadership and physical abilities; and

Whereas, with the guidance and leadership of Head Coach Brad Nickles, the boys soccer team of Emerald High School faced intimidating opponents and tough matches but was rewarded with the chance to become Class AA State Champions; and

Whereas, along their journey to the championship game, the Emerald High School boys soccer team enjoyed success in several competitions, entering the finals with an overall record of 20-3-1; and

Whereas, during the playoff competitions, the Emerald High School boys soccer team recorded several shut-out victories, allowing only one team to score against them in the state championship match against Bishop England; and

Whereas, capturing the title of Class AA Champions, the Emerald High School boys soccer team defeated Bishop England of Charleston with all players putting forth a tremendous amount of effort; and

Whereas, the members of this championship team include A. C. Cogburn, Brock Scott, Andy Waldrep, Bret Leary, Joey Bundrick, Gabriel Olvera, Adam Shaffer, Chris King, Jeremy Welch, C. K. Kirkland, Christopher Tommie, Cory Cox, Brian Amey, Andrew Pillman, Chris Robinson, Ernesto Hernandez, Demetrick Cooper, Jim Welborn, Josh Dean, Carl Stroud, Nathan Kirkland, and Tyson Christian; and

Whereas, the Emerald High School boys soccer team has brought great pride to not only their friends and family but also to the students, faculty, alumni, and staff of Emerald High School and the community as a whole; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize the physical abilities of these young South Carolinians and hope they will use their athletic skills and abilities in their future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate the members of Greenwood's Emerald High School boys soccer team and their coaching staff, on capturing the 2004 Class AA State Championship title and commend them on their dedication to being a championship team.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Emerald High School boys soccer team.
