A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE ELLEN H. HENDERSON FOR HER DEDICATION TO THE FIELD OF EDUCATION UPON HER RETIREMENT AS DIRECTOR OF MEMBER SERVICES FOR THE SOUTH CAROLINA SCHOOL BOARDS ASSOCIATION.

Whereas, Ellen H. Henderson for nineteen years has worked with the South Carolina School Boards Association to strengthen support of public schools through effective communications and to enhance and improve the leadership skills of school board members; and

Whereas, for sixteen years of that time, Ellen Henderson served as director of public relations, writing and editing award-winning publications, developing positive media relations, and advising school districts on best practices in communications; and

Whereas, she has served as director of member services for the association for the last three years and has expanded the professional development offered to the state's school board members through comprehensive statewide conferences and on-site training and launched the Master Board Institute, an in-depth leadership training for school board members and superintendents; and

Whereas, she has co-authored the nationally published book "Team Leadership for Student Achievement" and has developed and implemented workshops, on-site training, and focus groups in the areas of media relations, strategic planning, team building, leadership for student achievement, community relations, and numerous others; and

Whereas, she earned national accreditation in the field of public relations and served in several leadership roles for the National School Public Relations Association and its South Carolina chapter; and

Whereas, prior to joining the association, she served the school district of Lexington/Richland Five as director of public relations for nine years; and

Whereas, she previously served as a reporter and editor for newspapers in Myrtle Beach and Greenwood and at the University of South Carolina and was named "South Carolina Newspaper Woman of the Year"; and

Whereas, in her long and stellar career, she has received more than twenty-five writing and public relations awards from state and national organizations, and she has served as a mentor and advisor to others, earning the admiration and respect of school board members, administrators, and public relations professionals statewide and nationally; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly would like to thank this outstanding South Carolinian for all her contributions to the State of South Carolina upon the occasion of her retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly honor and recognize Ellen H. Henderson for her dedication to the field of education upon her retirement as director of member services for the South Carolina School Boards Association.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ellen Henderson.
