A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND MR. EDWARD HURSEY OF DARLINGTON FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO HIS COMMUNITY AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HIM IN ALL OF HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, born and raised in Darlington, Edward Hursey married the former Christine Weaver, with whom he had three children, Benjamin Edward (deceased), Jane, and Steve; and

Whereas, a member of a local Baptist church, Mr. Hursey has held and continues to hold many voluntary offices, and he is currently the chairman of "Jail House Sunday School Ministry"; and

Whereas, serving in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II and the Korean War, Mr. Hursey proudly served his country, and he continued his success while employed with the James River Corporation/Dixie Products, distinguishing himself every step of the way; and

Whereas, Mr. Hursey has served as the president of the Board of Directors for the Dixie Federal Credit Union, a member of the National Credit Union Association's Board of Directors and Legislative Forum, the chairman of the Darlington County Board of Education, and chairman of the Board of Directors of the South Carolina Credit Union League; and

Whereas, Mr. Hursey's dedication to education can be seen through the countless committees and boards on which he has served in the interest of better education for South Carolina's young people, including his work as the county director of the March of Dimes, the board of directors of the United Fund, the Governor's Task Force on Citizen Participation in Education, and the South Carolina Department of Education's "Crusade for Better Education" Steering Committee; and

Whereas, Mr. Hursey was awarded the Jaycee's Humanitarian Award and was honored by the Pee Dee Chapter of Credit Unions and the credit union movement of South Carolina as credit union "Man of the Year"; and

Whereas, Mr. Hursey's involvement in his community extends to the Darlington Toastmasters Club, the International Platform Association, the Darlington Lions Club, and the Darlington Sun 'N Splash Club, and he has been a champion of hearing impaired, deaf, and blind children and mentally retarded persons; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to recognize such an outstanding son of South Carolina as Ed Hursey for his countless accomplishments that have enhanced his community, Darlington County, and the State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend Mr. Edward Hursey of Darlington for his outstanding service to his community and the State of South Carolina and extend best wishes to him in all of his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Edward Hursey of Darlington.
