TO AMEND SECTION 23-6-300, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE CREATION OF FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY'S MOTOR VEHICLE DIVISION, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE MOTOR VEHICLE DIVISION MAY ENTER INTO CONTRACTS WITH PERSONS, CORPORATIONS, OR GOVERNMENTAL SUBDIVISIONS TO PROVIDE SERVICES.
Amend Title To Conform
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 23-6-300 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:
"Section 23-6-300. (A) There is created a The Motor Vehicle Division is created within the department. The division shall be is responsible for all of those functions, duties, and responsibilities previously exercised by and/or or operating under the Division of Motor Vehicles of the South Carolina Department of Highways and Public Transportation, or both.
(B) The Motor Vehicle Division may enter into contracts with persons, corporations, or governmental subdivisions in localities throughout the State to issue motor vehicle license plates, registration cards, and renewal stickers. The division shall supervise the provision of services contained in this subsection, and a person or an entity that the division contracts with pursuant to this subsection may charge fees in excess of the fees established under Title 56."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
