A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND COMMEND MAJOR JOHN DAVID DUDLEY UPON RECEIVING THE UNITED STATES BRONZE STAR MEDAL AND TO EXTEND SINCERE THANKS TO HIM FOR HIS MERITORIOUS SERVICE TO HIS COUNTRY.

Whereas, Major John David Dudley of South Carolina answered his country's call to service in Operation Enduring Freedom and served, not just willingly, but with distinction; and

Whereas, the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina respects and honors military service as among the highest forms of patriotism; and

Whereas, all South Carolinians must gratefully acknowledge the sacrifices made by the men and women of our armed forces when called to action, including risking peril to their own lives, injury, disability, separation from family and loved ones, and the potential loss of livelihood for members of our nation's Reserve Forces; and

Whereas, the United States of America has entered into and is engaged in a global war, not only to defend the American people and our homeland from international terrorism, but to bring peace and restore basic human rights in distant lands; and

Whereas, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom together hold the promise of advancing America's war on terrorism and establishing peace and democracy in Afghanistan and Iraq; and

Whereas, Major John David Dudley distinguished himself as a CJ9 Battle Major in support of combat special operations in Afghanistan; and

Whereas, in Afghanistan, Major Dudley was responsible for training and integration of two Wartraced Civil Affairs Brigades and eight separate Civil Affairs Battalions; and

Whereas, he served as the lead training and mobilization officer for all activated Civil Affairs soldiers deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, and he managed more than four million dollars in Overseas Humanitarian Disaster and Civil Assistance projects; and

Whereas, Major Dudley has been recognized by his superior officers as a model soldier whose attention to good order, discipline, and leadership served as an inspiration to his fellow soldiers; and

Whereas, he is described as a pillar of stability and direction in a challenging combat environment earning him the admiration and respect of those he led; and

Whereas, in recognition of his leadership, achievements, and overall distinguished service in Operation Enduring Freedom, Major John David Dudley was awarded the United States Bronze Star Medal. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina congratulate and commend Major John David Dudley upon receiving the United States Bronze Star Medal and sincerely thank him for his meritorious service to his country.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Major John David Dudley.
