A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF CLARENCE EDWIN "PAPPY" EADON OF MANNING ON SUNDAY, APRIL 4, 2004, AND TO CONVEY THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the Senate were deeply saddened by the death of Clarence Edwin "Pappy" Eadon, of Manning, at the age of ninety-two; and

Whereas, born November 12, 1911, in Summerton, he was the fifth of seven children of Julius Romey and Marian Estelle Rowe Eadon; and

Whereas, after graduating from Manning High School, Mr. Eadon attended the University of South Carolina, and he married Dorothy Elizabeth Bomar on October 17, 1934; and

Whereas, a World War II veteran, when his service ended, Mr. Eadon returned to Clarendon County to join his father in business, operating a grocery and general store and People's Furniture Store; and

Whereas, an active member of the Manning Rotary, Pappy Eadon was named a Paul Harris Fellow and was also a master mason of St. Peter's Lodge No. 54 in Manning; and

Whereas, a member of the William-Burgess American Legion Post No. 68, he was also a faithful member of the Manning United Methodist Church, where he held many offices, led the Men's Bible Class, and was a member of the Men's Choir; and

Whereas, an avid Gamecock fan, Pappy Eadon was a lifelong member of the University of South Carolina Alumni Association and the Gamecock Club and his enthusiasm for Carolina football will surely be missed as will his zeal for fishing, his favorite pastime; and

Whereas, always active in the Manning community and Clarendon County, he was loved by all who knew him and were fortunate enough to have him as a part of their lives. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Clarence Edwin "Pappy" Eadon of Manning on Sunday, April 4, 2004, and convey the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Eadon's family.
