RECOGNIZING THE ROTARY CLUB OF MYRTLE BEACH IN HORRY COUNTY AS IT ESTABLISHES THE OFFICER JOE MCGARRY MEMORIAL POLICE OFFICER OF THE YEAR AWARD TO HONOR THE MEMORY OF OFFICER MCGARRY WHO WAS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY ON DECEMBER 29, 2002.
Whereas, the Rotary Club of Myrtle Beach in Horry County desires to honor the memory of the late Officer Joe McGarry, killed in the line of duty on December 29, 2002; and
Whereas, the club has established the "Rotary Club of Myrtle Beach Officer Joe McGarry Memorial Police Officer of the Year Award" to perpetuate Office McGarry's memory and to recognize outstanding performance in his fellow police officers; and
Whereas, the Rotary Club makes the award to an officer nominated by his colleagues as the officer best exemplifying those traits of courage, diligence, and integrity that made Officer McGarry a special member of the force; and
Whereas, the first Officer McGarry Memorial Award will be presented Monday, May 5, 2003, in Myrtle Beach; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are proud to recognize an activity that honors the State's dedicated and brave law enforcement officers. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize the Rotary Club of Myrtle Beach in Horry County as it establishes the Officer Joe McGarry Memorial Police Officer of the Year Award to honor the memory of Officer McGarry who was killed in the line of duty on December 29, 2002.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Rotary Club of Myrtle Beach.
