A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON THE DEATH OF MRS. JACQUELINE "JACKIE" MCLENDON STEELE ON MAY 26, 2003, AND EXTEND DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina were deeply saddened by the death of loving wife and mother and respected and loyal friend, Jacqueline "Jackie" McLendon Steele of Sumter on Monday, May 26, 2003, at the age of sixty-four; and

Whereas, a native daughter of South Carolina, Jackie McLendon was born in Darlington to the late Edward Scarborough McLendon and the late Annie Mae Mixon McLendon; and

Whereas, Mrs. Steel was the bookkeeper for Internal Medical Associates, a position that she had devotedly and enthusiastically held for the past sixteen years; and

Whereas, Mrs. Steele was a dedicated Christian and member of Crosswell Baptist Church; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives extends its sympathy to the family and friends of Mrs. Jackie Steele. She is survived by her husband, William B. Steele, Sr., of Sumter; a son, W. Bryan Steele, Jr., and his wife, Vicky, of Sumter; three daughters, Sheila Thacker and her husband, Michael, of Irmo, Sharon Young and her husband, Jeffrey, and Suzann Sears and her husband, Pat, all of Sumter; two brothers, Edward "Bud" S. McLendon and the Reverend Charles H. McLendon, both of Hartsville; two sisters, Joyce Brigman and Sidney Beasley, both of Hartsville; and eleven grandchildren. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Mrs. Jacqueline "Jackie" McLendon Steele of Sumter on Monday, May 26, 2003, and extend deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. William B. Steele, Sr., of Sumter.
