A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF BILLY GENE "DICKEY" HOLMES OF ARCADIA IN SPARTANBURG COUNTY, AND TO CONVEY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the death on October 9, 2002, of Billy Gene "Dickey" Holmes of Arcadia in Spartanburg County, at the age of seventy; and

Whereas, a native of Cherokee, Mr. Holmes was the son of Luther D. and Laura Wilson Holmes; and

Whereas, Mr. Holmes was a familiar face at Holmes Lunch as a cook, a classic Spartanburg lunch spot; and

Whereas, softball was one of his favorite hobbies and he was a member of the Old Timers Softball League and was also a member of the Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame; and

Whereas, Mr. Holmes was a dedicated and beloved member of the Arcadia First Baptist Church; and

Whereas, Mr. Holmes is survived and sadly missed by his wife, Annette Holmes; his daughter, Sandy Snipes; two sons, Terry Holmes and Tim Holmes; two sisters, Cornelia Harris and Peggy Cusack; a brother, Walter Holmes; and seven grandchildren. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Billy Gene "Dickey" Holmes of Arcadia in Spartanburg County, and convey deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Annette Holmes of Arcadia.
