A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 16-13-160, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO BREAKING INTO MOTOR VEHICLES OR TANKS, PUMPS, AND OTHER CONTAINERS WHERE FUEL IS STORED, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A PERSON WHO VIOLATES THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SECTION SHALL HAVE HIS DRIVER'S LICENSE SUSPENDED IN ADDITION TO THE EXISTING PENALTIES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 16-13-160 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"(C)    A person who violates the provisions of this section, upon conviction, shall have his driver's license suspended for:

(1)    three months for a first offense;

(2)    six months for a second offense; and

(3)    one year for a third or subsequent offense.

The period of suspension required by this subsection is mandatory and may not be reduced or suspended."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
