TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR HOWARD BAZEN OF DARLINGTON COUNTY FOR HIS SIXTY YEARS IN THE RESTAURANT BUSINESS AND TO WISH HIM SUCCESS WITH HIS LATEST ENDEAVOR, HOWARD'S RESTAURANT, INSIDE THE WILLIAMS TRUCK PLAZA.

Whereas, Howard Bazen of Darlington County has spent his life in the restaurant business in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina; and

Whereas, starting out as a waiter in 1944, young Howard discovered his life's work at Kirby's Tavern on Irby Street in Florence when he received his first five-dollar tip; and

Whereas, this young businessman and entrepreneur worked his way up through the ranks and into management and opened his first restaurant in Darlington called the Southernaire; and

Whereas, Mr. Bazen went on to open several restaurants in Florence, Darlington, and Santee and five years ago opened Howard Bazen's on Palmetto Street in Florence; and

Whereas, together with his beloved wife, "Mrs. B", as she is affectionately known, he built a reputation over the last sixty years for good food and excellent and friendly service; and

Whereas, turning over Bazen's in Florence to his three daughters, Mr. Bazen and his wife took over the former Main Street Café inside Williams Truck Stop in Florence renaming it Howard's Restaurant; and

Whereas, Howard's Restaurant specializes in down-home country cooking served buffet style for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and caters to the traveling needs of truckers, tourists, and locals alike; and

Whereas, working side by side each day as they have always done, Mr. and Mrs. Bazen continue to provide a great traditional southern meal and friendly conversation to their patrons and friends; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is proud to pause to take notice of Mr. Bazen's six decades of hard work and dedication to the restaurant business in the Pee Dee and his and "Mrs. B's" contribution to the rich southern culture of our State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
