A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE DR. FLOSSIE HOPKINS OF DARLINGTON UPON HER RETIREMENT FROM THE DARLINGTON COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT AFTER FORTY-THREE YEARS OF SERVICE AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HER IN ALL OF HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize South Carolinians who are dedicated to giving their time and energy to helping build a sense of togetherness and developing young minds in their communities; and

Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the wonderful achievements of those who teach and to encourage these individuals who continue to inspire children year after year; and

Whereas, Dr. Flossie Hopkins has gone to great lengths throughout the past forty-three years to ensure that the students in the Darlington County School District are given state-based curriculum and instruction in every classroom; and

Whereas, a former Mayor of the City of Hartsville, Dr. Hopkins holds a Doctorate in Philosophy with a concentration in education administration, a Master's Degree in education, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in education, all from the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, for the past six years, Dr. Hopkins has been Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for the Darlington County School District; and

Whereas, with a desire to visit her grandchildren who live outside of South Carolina and to spend more time with her family and friends, Dr. Hopkins will not be giving up education completely as she has tentative plans to teach online or do something with children's books; and

Whereas, helping the staff plan for the future of the students in the district and then seeing those plans become a reality is also something Dr. Hopkins enjoys about her position and her presence will be sorely missed; and

Whereas, with forty-three years in the educational system of South Carolina, Dr. Flossie Hopkins has been an inspiration to those who have had the pleasure of working with her, and her vision and spirit have benefited the entire Darlington community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Dr. Flossie Hopkins of Darlington upon her retirement from the Darlington County School District after forty-three years of service and extend best wishes to her in all of her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Flossie Hopkins of Darlington.
