A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND PAY TRIBUTE TO PINEY GROVE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH IN COWPENS, SOUTH CAROLINA, ON THE OCCASION OF ITS CHURCH DEDICATION SERVICE ON SUNDAY, MAY 23, 2004.

Whereas, Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate "The Vision" that God has given Pastor Caryer D. Rector and host the Church Dedication Service for its new sanctuary and Fellowship and Teen Center on Sunday, May 23, 2004; and

Whereas, established as a church in 1925, the Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church originally began as a Brush Harbor in the early 1900's and later served as a schoolhouse; and

Whereas, through Pastor Rector, Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church was rebuilt and construction completed in May of 1992; and

Whereas, with expanding membership, Piney Grove again was compelled to enlarge its facilities and began construction of a new sanctuary in August of 2003. The former church was reorganized into a Fellowship and Teen Center, and both structures were completed in April 2004; and

Whereas, Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church has been a voice in the community in the area of education and endeavors to promote youth and adults to continue to strive for excellence; and

Whereas, in addition to promoting health fairs and environmental issues, the church emphasizes the role of senior citizens as valued leaders and embraces their wisdom in shaping and molding their community and heritage; and

Whereas, the vision of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church is "to make provision for generations and generations to come", and the House of Representatives is pleased to recognize this church for its efforts in looking towards the future. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and pay tribute to Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cowpens, South Carolina, on the occasion of its Church Dedication Service on Sunday, May 23, 2004.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cowpens, South Carolina.
