A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF JAMES J. CASTLEBERRY, OF SUMTER, THURSDAY, MAY 6, 2004, AND TO CONVEY THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were deeply saddened by the death of James J. "Jack" Castleberry of Sumter, at the age of sixty-eight; and

Whereas, born in Marbury, Alabama, Mr. Castleberry was the son of the late Reverend Joseph Columbus and Eula Blankinship Castleberry; and

Whereas, Mr. Castleberry was retired from Union Camp and he was a licensed ordained minister and associate chaplain for Tuomey Healthcare System; and

Whereas, active in the Christian Coalition and the Republican Party, Mr. Castleberry served as the second vice chairman of the Sumter Republican Party. He was also active at the Wateree Correctional Institute and a member of the National Rifle Association; and

Whereas, Mr. Castleberry was instrumental in implementing an Easter Sunrise Service and a National Day of Prayer; and

Whereas, a wonderful husband and father for many years, Mr. Castleberry was voted "Most Likely to Succeed" by his classmates and he was a member of the Living Word Outreach Ministries of Sumter; and

Whereas, Mr. Castleberry is survived by his wife of twenty-two years, Carolyn Kleinert Castleberry; two sons, Randall J. Castleberry and his wife, Tamara, of Wedgefield and Joseph L. Castleberry and his wife, Cathlene, of Springfield, Missouri; one daughter, Paula R. Wildgrube and her husband, Eric, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; one stepson Russell Adams and his wife, Terry, of Wilmington, North Carolina; three stepdaughters, Sherry Adams of Charlottesville, Virginia, Rhonda Miller and her husband, Danny, of Hemet, California, and Sibyl Hale and her husband, Terry, of Charlottesville, Virginia; two brothers, Jean H. Castleberry of Mylene, Alabama, and Jerry W. Castleberry, of Sylacauga, Alabama; one sister, Ruth E. Presley, of Sylacauga, Alabama; fourteen grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; and

Whereas, James J. "Jack" Castleberry loved his family and his friends as well as his faith, and his presence in their lives will be sorely missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of James J. Castleberry, of Sumter, Thursday, May 6, 2004, and convey the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Carolyn Kleinert Castleberry of Sumter.
