A SENATE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING MRS. ALMEDA ROGERS JACKS ON HER RETIREMENT FROM CLEMSON UNIVERSITY, THANKING HER FOR HER CONTINUED DEDICATION TO IMPROVING THE CAMPUS AND STUDENT LIFE, AND TO WISH HER MUCH SUCCESS IN HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Mrs. Jacks received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education and her Master's of Education in Personnel Services in Higher Education from Clemson University and an honorary Doctorate of Philosophy Degree from Lander University; and

Whereas, while doing her post-graduate work at the University of South Carolina and Clemson University, she worked as a summer school teacher for the Whitten Center, a school for the mentally disabled, in Clinton, South Carolina before beginning her career at Clemson University in 1975; and

Whereas, during her thirty-one years at Clemson, Mrs. Jacks has served with distinction as Program Coordinator, Associate Director, Acting Director, and Director of University Housing; and Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students; and

Whereas, in 1992, Mrs. Jacks was appointed as Clemson University's first female Vice President. As Vice President of Student Affairs, among the numerous responsibilities she oversees includes: the career center, health services, the Student Center, law enforcement, fire/EMS, housing, orientation, judicial services, leadership programs, multicultural affairs, information technology, and fundraising; and

Whereas, Vice President Jacks' leadership has resulted in remarkable physical changes on campus including the construction and renovation of University Housing facilities on and off campus, the Hendrix Student Center, and Fike Recreation Center; and

Whereas, Vice President Jacks created and actively assists the Parents Council, a volunteer group enlisting over two thousand family units to support the educational goals of the university while providing parents a voice, and the Parents' Council Executive Board, an external advisory board, and the Parents' Council Development Board, a student advisory board; and

Whereas, Vice President Jacks' resourcefulness and professional knowledge, has aided Clemson in becoming an internationally renowned institution of higher learning. As a member of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators since 1977, she has served on the National Board, acted as President for three years, and represented the board on a tour of higher education instructors in France. She has also served on the Southern Association for College Student Affairs Executive Committee; and

Whereas, Vice President Jacks has given numerous presentations, conducted workshops, overseen training at national conferences, and received many accolades for her talents and abilities including the John Koldus Award for Distinguished service to Region III, which includes eleven southeastern states from Virginia to Florida to Texas, and

Whereas, Vice President Jacks is also actively involved in the community. She was on the BB&T Regional Bank Board for eleven years, is a past Board of Directors member for the United Way, is a member of the Building Committee for Clemson Elementary School, the Foundation Board for D.W. Daniel High School, the Clemson Chamber of Commerce, the Anderson Area Medical Center Board of Trustees, the Anderson Chamber of Commerce, and is a former Elder at Fort Mill Presbyterian Church; and

Whereas, Vice President Jacks is married to Mr. William E. Jacks and mother of fifteen year old, Errett Alexander Jacks. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Vice President Almeda Rogers Jacks on her retirement from Clemson University, thank her for her years of continued dedication to improving both the University and the student experience, and wish her much success in her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Vice President Almeda Rogers Jacks.
