A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE JERICHO UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF COTTAGEVILLE ON THE OCCASION OF ITS HISTORIC 250TH ANNIVERSARY AND TO COMMEND AND CONGRATULATE THE CHURCH FOR ITS MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF THE COMMUNITY.

Whereas, Jericho United Methodist Church, located in Cottageville, will celebrate its 250th year anniversary May 11-14, 2006; and

Whereas, on Thursday and Friday nights (May 11-12) services will begin at 7:30 pm. with speakers from the community, as well as former pastors; and

Whereas, on Saturday morning May 13, 2006, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., a fun day will be held for the entire community; and

Whereas, events on that day will be cooking in wash pots in the yard, the old fashion way; a health fair; horseback riding; finger painting; stump speaking; face painting; step show; K-9 dogs; and much more; and

Whereas, Sunday services will begin at 10:00 with a speaker from the United Methodist Church Conference; and

Whereas, Jericho United Methodist Church will be alive with enthusiasm praising God and giving Him thanks for blessing this church for so many years; and

Whereas, Jericho United Methodist Church has been a source of inspiration for people living in the Cottageville area and beyond for 250 years; and

Whereas, there is no doubt that the church will continue to grow and prosper under God's guidance. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That members of the South Carolina Senate wish to recognize Jericho United Methodist Church of Cottageville on the occasion of its historic 250th Anniversary and to commend and congratulate the church for its many years of service to the citizens of the community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Pastor Alfonza Jones, Sr.
