VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE PASSING OF HAROLD E. LEWIS OF HORRY COUNTY AND TO OFFER HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened by the news of the death of Mr. Harold E. Lewis on April 28, 2006; and
Whereas, born on March 13, 1938, Harold Eugene "Hal" Lewis graduated from Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, Maryland with a B.S. in accounting in 1960. That same year he accepted a position with the U.S. General Accounting Office in Washington, D.C.; and
Whereas, within a year he joined the United States Army Reserves and was called for active duty during the Berlin Crisis. In 1963, he continued his career with the Federal Government, and in 1975, he was selected to attend the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, from which he graduated in 1976; and
Whereas, in 1984, he relocated with his family to Little River, where he and his loving wife, Deanna, purchased Toby's Old World, Inc. Together, they owned and operated the business until their retirement in 2001; and
Whereas, very involved in the Little River Community, Mr. Lewis was a faithful and active member of the Little River United Methodist Church; he was on the Board of Directors of the Little River Water and Sewerage Company from 1988 until 2003, serving as Vice President from 1989 until 1990 and as President from 1990 until 2003; and
Whereas, Mr. Lewis generously gave of his time and was vitally interested in the Little River Medical Center, serving on its board for over ten years, and as Chairman of the Board for five years. His leadership and vision were essential to the center's growth and success, and countless patients benefited from Mr. Lewis' commitment to the furtherance of the health center; and
Whereas, the people of Little River will forever be in debt to Mr. Lewis for his tireless efforts and selfless contributions to many community interests and activities. The work that he did touched many lives, and he will long be remembered throughout the Little River Community. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Harold E. Lewis of Horry County and offer his family and many friends the deepest sympathy.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Mrs. Deanna Lewis.
