A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE GRATITUDE AND APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO MR. MARSHALL CARITHERS FOR HIS EXEMPLARY SERVICE TO THE MILITARY, THE CITIZENS OF ANDERSON COUNTY, AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Marshall Carithers spent his formative years in Anderson County. He attended Anderson Boys High School lettering in football, basketball, and track while setting State AAAA records in the high and low hurdles; and

Whereas, Mr. Carithers went on to attend the University of Georgia at Marietta, Georgia and Clemson University; and

Whereas, he has enjoyed a diverse career path serving in the Air Force and Air Force Reserves, as Assistant Purchasing Agent for Abney Mills, and later founding Carithers Real Estate, Inc. where he is currently involved in commercial, industrial, and residential development; and

Whereas, Mr. Carithers has worked extensively to strengthen the surrounding community; and

Whereas, he has been instrumental in promoting and supporting the economic growth of the City of Anderson and Anderson County through recruiting commercial and industrial prospects; and

Whereas, he is a member of the Anderson Sertoma Club, the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Foothills United Way; and

Whereas, Carithers Real Estate, Inc. serves as corporate sponsor for Meals on Wheels, the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, and an Anderson Recreation Centers Youth Baseball Team; and

Whereas, Mr. Carithers, in addition to his military service, worked extensively to lend support to service members and the efforts of the South Carolina National Guard; and

Whereas, he is a representative for the "ESGR," Employers Support of Guard and Reserve, acting as a liaison between service members and employers. He is active in briefing area unit members regarding pre-deployment and return to civilian life issues; and

Whereas, he has been supportive of the South Carolina National Guard's requirements to retrofit the 263rd Army Air and Missile Defense command's new facility in Anderson while lending support for the evolving missions of the upstate National Guard and Reservist soldiers; and

Whereas, he has either participated or sponsored the Welcome Home Ceremony for the 151st Signal Battalion, the Celebrate Anderson Concert in honor of our area military members, the Honor Valor Ceremony, SC State Guard initiative for State's Medal of Honor recipients, the CPL Freddie Stowers Monument Dedication, Anderson County Medal of Honor recipient, the 262nd Regimental Family support Group Sponsor and the Phillip A. Connely Award Ceremony/Dinner; and

Whereas, he has been a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Anderson since 1958; and

Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the General Assembly to recognize this Son of South Carolina for his contributions to his community, the State, and this nation. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Marshall Carithers for his exemplary service to the military, the citizens of Anderson County, and the State of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Marshall Carithers.
