Whereas, Herbert C. Adams, a native of Laurens, began his relationship with the University of South Carolina in 1960, when he matriculated as a new student; and

Whereas, for the past twenty years, Mr. Adams has served as a member of the University of South Carolina Board of Trustees; and

Whereas, one of his first major accomplishments on the board came in 1986, when he recommended the creation of a Fiscal Policy Committee to better monitor the university's finances; and

Whereas, Mr. Adams also has represented the board on a university-wide strategic planning project that sought to chart the future course of the university; and

Whereas, his dedication to the university and his leadership on the board have made Mr. Adams worthy of being elected to the position of Chairman of the University of South Carolina Board of Trustees; and

Whereas, in addition to his duties on the USC Board of Trustees, Mr. Adams currently serves as a consultant with the United Agency in Laurens; and

Whereas, Mr. Adams believes that there are two things that are invaluable in a person's life: faith and education. Throughout his life, he has focused on those two things; and

Whereas, Mr. Adams and his wife, Gwen, have three children and ten grandchildren, and it is his wish that all ten of his grandchildren go to Carolina; and

Whereas, it is with pleasure and admiration that the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina applaud Herbert Adams for his advice and assistance to the university and wish him success as the new Chairman of the University of South Carolina Board of Trustees. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
