A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE BROOME HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD TEAM OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY ON THEIR STATE AA TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE TEAM MEMBERS AND THEIR COACH, SKIP FRYE, ON THEIR EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.

Whereas, the Broome High School Centurions capped their impressive 2005 Track and Field season by becoming South Carolina State AA Track and Field Champions, marking the team's third state championship win in the last sixteen years; and

Whereas, the championship win and incredible 2005 season was possible only through the hard work and dedication of the players, coaches, and trainers; and

Whereas, team captains Markish Jones and D. J. Moore led the Centurions in achieving remarkable results as a team, and also achieved outstanding individual performances. Jones won the state title in the long jump and finished second in the 100 meter run and third in the 200 meter run, and Moore captured the state high jump title with a leap of six feet, six inches; and

Whereas, other standouts on the team include Gavin Anderson, who placed third in the discus throw; Stefan Shealy, who placed third in the 3200 meter run; Jeremy Vangsnes, who placed fourth in the 1600 meter run; Tamik Foster, who placed sixth in the 400 meter hurdles race; and Antonio Thomas, who placed seventh in the triple jump; and

Whereas, together, Markish Jones, D. J. Moore, Jerome Meadows, and Jermaine Brown finished second in the four-by-one hundred meter relay; and

Whereas, D. J. Moore, Antonio Thomas, Tamik Foster, and Khris Holmes placed second in the four-by-four hundred meter relay; and

Whereas, the team's success as a whole could not have been possible without the tireless leadership and support of assistant coaches Doug Purinton, Steve Wilson, Demon Logar, and David Hammel, and student alternates to the team, Rashard Lyles and Jerrial Brannon; and

Whereas, Broome High School and the Spartanburg community as a whole take great pride in the outstanding athletic accomplishments of the Track and Field team, and expect to see continued success from its members, both on and off the field. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives congratulate the Broome High School Track and Field Team of Spartanburg County on their State AA Track and Field Championship title, and honor the team members and their coach, Skip Frye, on their exceptional season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Skip Frye and the members of the 2005 Broome High School Track and Field team.
