A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE CHAPMAN HIGH SCHOOL LADY PANTHERS SOFTBALL TEAM OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY ON THEIR STATE CLASS AA CHAMPIONSHIP, AND TO RECOGNIZE THE PLAYERS AND COACH REBECCA PACK ON THEIR OUTSTANDING 2005 SEASON.

Whereas, the Chapman High School softball team won the Softball State Class AA Championship by defeating Silver Bluff High School 6-5 in the third game of the state final; and

Whereas, the hard-fought victory was truly a team effort and was not decided until the final moments of the game, with the Lady Panthers entering the game with a 1-1 record in the three game final, and not scoring the winning single until the ninth inning; and

Whereas, the Lady Panthers began the season with a landmark victory, taking the program's first outright championship in the Gene Lee Memorial Tournament by defeating Class AAAA powers Dorman and Boiling Springs, region foe Broome, and Class AAA team Blue Ridge; and

Whereas, in Region II-AA, the Lady Panthers only lost one game during the regular season, taking the region's number one seed into the playoffs and winning the District II playoffs with a 7-1 and 12-1 double header victory over Pelion; and

Whereas, this outstanding finish for the Chapman High School Lady Panthers Softball Team signifies that Coach Park's Panthers are truly the team to beat in high school women's softball. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Chapman High School Lady Panthers softball team of Spartanburg County on their State Class AA Championship and recognize the players and Coach Rebecca Pack on their outstanding 2005 season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Chapman High School Principal Harrison Goodwin.
