A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF DOCTOR RON WALFIELD UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS PRINCIPAL OF MARSHALL PRIMARY SCHOOL IN BELTON, SOUTH CAROLINA, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HIM IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, with mixed emotions, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives have learned that Doctor Ron Walfield is retiring as Principal of Marshall Primary School in Belton, South Carolina; and

Whereas, Dr. Walfield is a graduate of Clemson University, where he received both his Bachelor's degree and Master's degree; he went on to earn his doctorate from Nova Southwestern University; and

Whereas, in 1973 Doctor Walfield began his career in education as a teacher at Belton Middle School and subsequently was selected to be the Special Education Coordinator for School District Two; he became principal of Marshall Primary School in 1979 and has served with distinction in that position for over thirty-five years; and

Whereas, his role as an outstanding educator, mentor, and leader has been recognized by Anderson School District 2 by selecting Doctor Walfield to receive the Principal's Award for his outstanding contributions to School District Two; among his many accomplishments at Marshall Primary was being the first to implement the Accelerated Reader Program, which has substantially increased reading scores and reading interest; and

Whereas, in addition to his exemplary career in education, Doctor Walfield has given of his time and talents to his community, having served as president of the Lion's Club, and currently serving as secretary, and as a loyal and faithful member of the United Methodist Church of Belton, where he sings in the church choir and where he has served as a lay reader for many years; and

Whereas, Doctor Ron Walfield has distinguished himself as an exceptional educator in South Carolina through his commitment and devotion to Marshall Primary School and its staff and students, and the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize such an outstanding South Carolinian. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their gratitude and appreciation to Doctor Ron Walfield for his lifetime commitment to education and his exemplary public service to the State of South Carolina and extend best wishes to him in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Doctor Ron Walfield.
