A HOUSE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING FOUR CANADIAN COUPLES WITH CLOSE PERSONAL TIES TO THE UNITED STATES AND SOUTH CAROLINA AND EXTENDING GREETINGS TO THEM FROM THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ON BEHALF OF OUR COLLEAGUE, SPEAKER DAVID WILKINS, IN ANTICIPATION OF THE CONFIRMATION OF HIS APPOINTMENT AS UNITED STATES AMBASSADOR TO CANADA.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives anticipates the confirmation of Speaker David Wilkins as United States Ambassador to Canada; and

Whereas, South Carolina has always had a special relationship with Canadians, who revel in our moderate climate and endless recreational opportunities; and

Whereas, four Canadian couples from the Province of Manitoba are particular friends of South Carolina House Member Thayer Rivers, and Ray Smith Sr. and Rick Marscher; and

Whereas, these "Prairie Canadians" have braved the elements in Manitoba to become successful agribusinessmen in the areas of farming and cattle ranching; and

Whereas, they possess a warmth and hospitality that are legendary and rival those of the American South; and

Whereas, Stan and Fjola Bonkowski, Sigmar and Hulda Johnson, David and Norma Smolinski, and Klass and Linda Friesen are sure to extend a warm welcome to our colleague as he makes his new home in Ottawa. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize four Canadian couples with close personal ties to the United States and South Carolina and extend greetings to them from the South Carolina House of Representatives on behalf of our colleague, Speaker David Wilkins, in anticipation of the confirmation of his appointment as United States Ambassador to Canada.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Stan and Fjola Bonkowski, Sigmar and Hulda Johnson, David and Norma Smolinski, and Klass and Linda Friesen.
