A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE STEPHANIE SEAY, KINDERGARTEN TEACHER AT WELLFORD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN SPARTANBURG COUNTY, UPON BEING NAMED THE SOUTH CAROLINA TEACHER OF THE YEAR FOR 2005-2006.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are very pleased to learn that Stephanie Seay was named South Carolina Teacher of the Year for 2005-2006 by the South Carolina Department of Education; and

Whereas, Mrs. Seay has taught kindergarten at Wellford Elementary School in Spartanburg School District 5 for the last four years, having begun her teaching career as a kindergarten teacher in Laurens School District 56, where she taught for six years; and

Whereas, a native of Spartanburg County, Mrs. Seay earned her bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina - Upstate and her master's degree from Furman University; she is a staff development leader and has presented and facilitated workshops on school readiness and assessment; and

Whereas, Mrs. Seay has not only further honed her skills becoming a National Board Certified teacher, but she has also shared her extraordinary talent and imparted her love of teaching as a mentor and adjunct professor to early childhood education students at Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina; and

Whereas, an exemplary teacher and education leader, Mrs. Seay approaches her career with an unparalleled passion and infectious enthusiasm; she is selfless in her devotion to her students and finds great satisfaction and value in building relationships with her students and their families; and

Whereas, Mrs. Seay's classroom provides an environment ripe for learning, where the children not only get a firm educational foundation, but where they also grow in self-confidence and self-worth and where they learn by example how to love and respect each other; and

Whereas, she has taken Wellford Elementary School's belief that "Everyone is responsible for the greater good" to heart and structures many activities around supporting and strengthening the community. Mrs. Seay also teaches the importance of health and fitness and has established a "Fit Kids" program that fosters healthy, physically active lifestyles in young children, and she has also taken this message to the community where she teaches fitness classes in the evenings and on weekends; and

Whereas, it is with great admiration and appreciation that the members of the General Assembly recognize such an exceptional educator and daughter of South Carolina, Mrs. Stephanie Seay, upon being selected for this outstanding award and extend to her best wishes and great success during her tenure as the state's public education ambassador. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate Stephanie Seay, kindergarten teacher at Wellford Elementary School in Spartanburg County, upon being named the South Carolina Teacher of the Year for 2005-2006.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Stephanie Seay.
