A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING THE HONORABLE WILLIAM PRESSLEY STEELE, JR. FOR HIS TWENTY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO ANDERSON COUNTY FROM THE BENCH OF THE SUMMARY COURT AND HONORING HIM FOR HIS COMMITMENT TO JUSTICE AND HIS COMMUNITY.

Whereas, the Honorable William Pressley Steele, Jr. has served as Summary Court Judge for Anderson County for twenty years; and

Whereas, since 1986, this native son of Anderson has dispensed justice on both the criminal and civil sides of the Summary Court, managing annual caseloads of five to six thousand; and

Whereas, Judge Steele prepared himself for this awesome task by graduating with honors from T.L. Hanna High School and with highest honors from Erskine College, before earning the M.A. degree in journalism from the University of Georgia and the J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law; and

Whereas, his experience as a newspaper reporter and bureau chief, private practitioner of law, law clerk in the Supreme Court, and hearing officer for the South Carolina Employment Security Commission all contributed to his unique understanding of the role of the law in the lives of everyday people; and

Whereas, his professional credentials have been recognized by his peers, who have chosen him to serve as president of the State Summary Court Judges Association, guest lecturer for new judges, and on various statewide judicial committees; and

Whereas, Judge Steele also serves his neighbors through his many and varied memberships and leadership positions, including Trinity United Methodist Church, Anderson County Human Relations Committee, and Haven of Rest Ministries for alcoholics and drug addicts; and

Whereas, the loving husband of Marietta Yeung Steele and proud father of Gregory Roux Steele, Judge Steele exemplifies the traits that make South Carolina's public servants great; and

Whereas, the General Assembly is privileged to recognize his contributions to this State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognizes the Honorable William Pressley Steele, Jr. for his twenty years of dedicated service to Anderson County from the bench of the Summary Court and honors him for his commitment to justice and his community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable William Pressley Steele, Jr.
