A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF COUNCILMAN WILLIAM "BILL" WESTBROOK OF CHESTER COUNTY AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened by the news of the death of Chester County Councilman William "Bill" Westbrook on February 2, 2006; and

Whereas, a devoted husband and family man, Mr. Westbrook shared a loving marriage with his wife, Barbara Adams Westbrook, and adored his five children, Mariam W. Ward, Rachel McCreight Westbrook, Anna Kathleen Westbrook, Emily Ruth Westbrook, and Walter Thomas Westbrook. He was also the doting grandfather to two beautiful grandchildren; and

Whereas, a Chester native, Mr. Westbrook attended Chester County public schools and graduated with a degree in Electronics Engineering Technology from York Technical College; and

Whereas, Mr. Westbrook led a varied career path throughout his lifetime, as he was a past employee of Bell South and Chester Telephone Co., then worked as a self-employed farmer until his death; and

Whereas, strongly committed to the preservation of both community and country, Mr. Westbrook was a member of the Chester County Council and was also a Marine Corps Veteran, serving two tours of duty in the Vietnam War; and

Whereas, selflessly giving of his time and talents in countless ways, Mr. Westbrook served as a little league baseball coach and a Boy Scout leader, and also sang barbershop quartet-style music; and

Whereas, strong in his faith, Mr. Westbrook was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Lancaster branch; and

Whereas, though Mr. Westbrook is sorely missed, his legacy and integrity will live on in the lives of all who knew him, and the impact he made on the Chester community will not soon be forgotten. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Councilman William "Bill" Westbrook of Chester County and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Barbara Adams Westbrook.
