A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE DR. GEORGE V. ROSENBERG OF ABBEVILLE COUNTY FOR HIS EXCEPTIONAL CAREER AND COMMITMENT TO THE LIVES OF THOSE HE SERVED, AND TO WISH HIM ALL THE BEST UPON HIS NINETIETH BIRTHDAY.

Whereas, born on March 27, 1916, to Octavia Schweren Rosenberg and Solomon Herbert Rosenberg in Abbeville, Dr. George V. Rosenberg has spent his ninety years in extraordinary service to others; and

Whereas, a loving and devoted family man, Dr. Rosenberg celebrates a sixty-four-year marriage with his wife, Edith Rosenberg, and enjoys his three children, Patsy Rosenberg Riley, Herbert Manning Rosenberg, and Grace Rosenberg. He is also the proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, a graduate of Abbeville High School and a 1937 graduate of The Citadel, Dr. Rosenberg earned his medical degree from the Medical College of South Carolina and completed a rotating internship in Charleston at the Medical College of South Carolina; and

Whereas, immediately after finishing his rotating internship, Dr. Rosenberg was called into the United States Army to serve as a doctor during World War II. He lived in nine different states in the next two years, and was deployed to England for a year and Germany for six months; and

Whereas, returning to the United States, he and his family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, where he completed his surgical residency at James Walker Memorial Hospital. Upon completion of his residency, Dr. Rosenberg and his family moved back to Abbeville, where he set up his general practice; and

Whereas, a true small-town doctor, Dr. Rosenberg served his patients in almost every imaginable capacity, and was the only surgeon in Abbeville County for nineteen years. He also focused on obstetrics, delivering close to three thousand babies over thirty years of his practice; and

Whereas, exceptionally dedicated to his patients, Dr. Rosenberg led an incredible fifty-one-year career as a doctor in Abbeville, retiring on July 15, 1999, at the age of 83; and

Whereas, Dr. Rosenberg and his wife enjoyed extensive travel in a motor home in 1986, touring both Alaska and Mexico for two month intervals, and driving back and forth across the United States six to eight times; and

Whereas, the life and career of Dr. George V. Rosenberg has been truly remarkable, and the House of Representatives takes great pride in honoring him for the indelible contributions he has made to the Abbeville community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and recognize Dr. George V. Rosenberg of Abbeville County for his exceptional career and commitment to the lives of those he served, and wish him all the best upon his ninetieth birthday.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. George V. Rosenberg.
