Whereas, he proudly served God and country in the United States Army and since 1961 he was self-employed as an independent insurance agent; and

Whereas, Mr. Gill found the time to give back to the community by giving so unselfishly of his time, talents, and energy over the years. He held many leadership positions in various community and civic organizations including: President of the Rock Hill Jaycees in 1963, President of the Greater Rock Hill Chamber of Commerce in 1973, Chairman of the first Come See Me Festival, Chairman of Rock Hill Industrial Park, and served as a charter member as well as first President of the Winthrop Eagle Club; and

The Gills were also proud to boast ten grandchildren: Hamp Wallace, Will Gill, Keith Wallace, John Gill III, Joanna Gill, Ryan Gill, Josh Gill, Jesse Gill, Scottie Turner, and Wesley Turner; and

Whereas, with the death of this truly fine gentleman, the people of Rock Hill and South Carolina have lost a person of great dignity, integrity, and character who greatly enriched the lives of all those who had the privilege of knowing him. The South Carolina House of Representatives takes pride in recognizing this dear South Carolinian and his lifetime of many and varied contributions to his local community and the State. Now, therefore,
