TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE REVEREND DR. TOMMY L. BROWN, PASTOR OF NEW FREE HOPE INDEPENDENT CHURCH IN BLYTHEWOOD, FOR HIS TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED SERVICE.
Whereas, born the twelfth child of John and Susanna Brown on August 25, 1950, in Tifton, Georgia, Dr. Tommy L. Brown has touched the lives of many with his extraordinary faith and commitment to the growth of his church and its people; and
Whereas, Dr. Brown grew up in a God-fearing family with his father being the Head Deacon and his mother being the church musician at Friendship Baptist Church in Yalaha, Florida; and
Whereas, a devoted husband and family man, Dr. Brown celebrates a loving marriage to his childhood sweetheart, Deloris Murry, and adores his two children: Latisha and Shaun; and is the proud grandfather of Tyra; and
Whereas, a proud veteran of the United States Army, he received his undergraduate degree from Erskine College in Due West and his doctoral degree from the International Bible College in Columbia; and
Whereas, Dr. Brown started his ministry in 1975 at Friendship Baptist Church where his first sermon was titled "We Have a Long Way to Go, But Our Destiny is Far Greater Than Our Trip"; and
Whereas, in 1981, Dr. Brown was called to pastor the New Free Hope Independent Church in Blythewood, where he is still pastoring now; and
Whereas, throughout the past twenty-five years, Dr. Brown says his greatest achievement in life was when he heard and answered the "Call of God"; and
Whereas, Dr. Brown has made an indelible impact on the spiritual and personal lives of everyone with whom he comes into contact, and New Free Hope Independent Church looks with great anticipation to the future under his leadersip; and
Whereas, leading with great honor and integrity, his motto remains, "We know not what the future holds, but thank God, we know who holds the future". Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives recognize and congratulate the Reverend Dr. Tommy L. Brown, Pastor of New Free Hope Independent Church in Blythewood, for twenty-five years of outstanding and dedicated service.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Brown.
