A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE ROCK HILL HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING WIN OF THE CLASS AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND COACH BOBBY STEVENS ON AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.

Whereas, excellence in basketball demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as team play and good sportsmanship; and

Whereas, using those talents and attributes, Coach Bobby Stevens and the members of the Rock Hill High School Varsity Boys Basketball Team finished an incredible season by winning the Class AAAA State Championship held at the Colonial Center in Columbia; and

Whereas, the Bearcats won their last fourteen games, finished the season with an impressive record of 22-4, and beat Aiken in the Upper State Championship to advance to the Class AAAA State Championship game against the favored Goose Creek team; and

Whereas, for the second time in two games, the Bearcats came from behind and pulled out a huge victory with a final score of 74-69 over Goose Creek; and

Whereas, the hard-fought championship victory was truly a team effort, as players poured all of themselves into securing their first state championship win; and

Whereas, working together, standouts L. C. McCullough, Tori Childers, Phillip Adams, and Quentin Thomas made the game look easy, scoring hosts of points and making truly incredible plays; and

Whereas, described by Coach Stevens as "the best-conditioned team" in his eight seasons at Rock Hill, these outstanding young athletes who make up this championship team deserve special recognition for their efforts and for conducting themselves in such a manner that they will serve as role models of good sportsmanship for all young athletes in the State. The late long-time Bearcats coach, Y. C. Winborn, certainly would be proud of this team and their historic championship win; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take great pride in commending the young men of the Rock Hill High School Varsity Boys Basketball Team for their tireless efforts and determination in capping an outstanding season with their impressive win at the Big Dance. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Rock Hill High School Varsity Boys Basketball Team for its outstanding win of the Class AAAA State Championship Title, and honor the players and Coach Bobby Stevens on an exceptional season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the players, coaches, and school officials of the Rock Hill High School Varsity Boys Basketball Team.
