A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 23-31-145 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A CERTIFIED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER WHO PURCHASES A CONCEALABLE WEAPON MUST BE AFFORDED THE SAME RIGHTS AS THE HOLDER OF A CONCEALED WEAPON PERMIT, AND TO PROVIDE THAT THE FEE IMPOSED FOR A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK THAT MUST BE COMPLETED FOR A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER COVERED BY THIS SECTION IS WAIVED.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Article 3, Chapter 31, Title 23 of the 1976 Code, is amended by adding:

"Section 23-31-145.    (A)    A certified law enforcement officer who purchases a concealable weapon must be afforded the same rights as the holder of a concealed weapon permit.

(B)    The fee imposed for a criminal background check that must be completed for a law enforcement officer covered by this section is waived."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
