A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO COMMEMORATE THE TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA POULTRY FESTIVAL IN BATESBURG-LEESVILLE AND TO HONOR THOSE PLANNING AND PARTICIPATING IN THE 2006 FESTIVAL ON MAY 11-13.

Whereas, the South Carolina Poultry Festival celebrates its twentieth year with the 2006 festival, to be held on May 11-13, in Batesburg-Leesville; and

Whereas, at a Leesville Merchants' Association meeting in 1986, Mrs. Sara Shealy suggested that area merchants honor the poultry industry, the largest employer in the area; and

Whereas, twenty years later, most of the original steering committee members still faithfully come together to plan the festival; and

Whereas, the first festival drew an amazing twenty thousand participants, and attendance has grown to over one hundred thousand in recent years; and

Whereas, attendees enjoy delicious barbeque and live entertainment, including school choruses, school bands, dance teams, and gospel and bluegrass bands; and

Whereas, in addition to the great food and music, the festival features a car show, complete with antique tractors on display; and

Whereas, those with athletic inclinations compete in an annual road race, or participate in the volleyball tournament; and

Whereas, the twentieth anniversary festival is sure to be an exciting and memorable time for South Carolina families to come together to celebrate the poultry industry and what it does to boost South Carolina and its economy. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the South Carolina Poultry Festival in Batesburg-Leesville and honor those planning and participating in the 2006 festival on May 11-13.
