A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE CHIQUOLA BAPTIST CHURCH ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY THIS YEAR, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO THE CHURCH AS IT CONTINUES TO SPREAD THE WORD OF GOD.

Whereas, Chiquola Baptist Church was formed in 1905, when Reverend R.W. Burts and those who had been attending sermons at Chiquola Hall decided to organize a church on Sunday, the thirteenth of August in Honea Path, South Carolina; and

Whereas, during the early years of the church, services were held in a union church with Baptists holding services two Sundays a month until 1923, when a movement to construct a new building began. The building was completed in May of 1924 and the church was dedicated on August 2, 1925; and

Whereas, Chiquola Baptist Church became a full-time church in 1941 with Reverend R.Q. Gregg serving as the first full-time pastor for the church; and

Whereas, over the years, the church has grown in size and has improved upon old traditions and implemented new ones by creating child development and youth programs and beginning a weekly church paper called "The Chimes"; and

Whereas, the church has undergone many improvements and changes since its humble beginning, but its mission of helping others find solace in the Lord has remained and will remain unchanging. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Chiquola Baptist Church on the occasion of its 100th anniversary this year, and extend best wishes to the church as it continues to spread the word of God.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Chiquola Baptist Church in Honea Path.
