A SENATE RESOLUTION

CONGRATULATING THE GAFFNEY HIGH SCHOOL INDIANS VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM ON ITS IMPRESSIVE BIG SIXTEEN STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND COACHES ON ANOTHER EXTRAORDINARY SEASON.

Whereas, the Indians turned around a disappointing first half by scoring two touchdowns in the final four minutes against Summerville to earn the school's fifteenth state title with an electrifying 33-32 victory in the Big Sixteen State Championship game; and

Whereas, a football championship requires every member of the team and coaching staff to possess special leadership skills and athletic abilities; and

Whereas, using those talents, Head Coach Phil Strickland and the members of the team performed throughout their season with determination and precision, illustrating the importance of never giving up; and

Whereas, with the enthusiasm and hard work of every team member, the Gaffney High Indians earned the 2005 Big Sixteen State Championship title; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize the physical and mental abilities and the hard work and dedication of these young South Carolinians and encourage them to continue to use those skills in their future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the Gaffney High School Indians Varsity Football Team on its impressive Big Sixteen State Championship title, and honor its players and their coach, Phil Strickland, on another extraordinary season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the 2005 Gaffney High School Football Team and Head Coach Phil Strickland.
