A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE J. L. MANN HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS LACROSSE TEAM FOR WINNING THE STATE LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO EACH OF THESE OUTSTANDING YOUNG WOMEN IN ALL THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are pleased to learn that the J. L. Mann High School girls lacrosse team recently won the State Lacrosse Championship; and

Whereas, the J. L. Mann girls defeated Eastside 8-7 on May 6, 2006, at Heathwood Hall School in Columbia to win the championship; and

Whereas, in the championship game, the tying goal was scored by Ashley Murphy, the winning goal was made by Emily Wivell, and other goals were made by Jenna Handshoe and Katherine Joseph; and

Whereas, this marks the first lacrosse championship ever for J. L. Mann, and the team finished the 2006 season with a fine overall record of fourteen wins and four losses; and

Whereas, several players on the team received deserved recognition. Jenna Handshoe was named Defensive Player of the Year for South Carolina; and Whitney Heald, Katherine Joseph, Jenna Handshoe, and Emily Wivell were named First Team All-state; and

Whereas, in this unique sport, the players were coached with skill and expertise by coaches Kristy Schumacher and B. C. Bands, and their excellent coaching was evident when the players took the field; and

Whereas, the performance and conduct of this talented group of young women in their athletic competitions and in their academic and other school work has brought deserved credit not only upon themselves and their school but upon their community as well; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, are desirous of publicly recognizing and honoring the J. L. Mann girls lacrosse team for winning this truly deserved championship. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly recognize and commend the J. L. Mann High School girls lacrosse team for winning the state lacrosse championship and extend best wishes to each of these outstanding young women in all their future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Susan Hughes, Principal of J. L. Mann High School.
