Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mary Ruth Branyon of Gowensville; and
Whereas, Mrs. Branyon was a founding member and past president of the Landrum Quilters and was well known in the region for her quilting expertise; and
Whereas, a woman of great faith, she was a long-standing and dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Gowensville; and
Whereas, Mrs. Branyon was the devoted wife for more than sixty-two years to her husband, William E. Branyon, a native of Honea Path; and
Whereas, a member of the "Greatest Generation", she provided loving support to her husband during the more than three years he fought in Africa and Europe in World War II; and
Whereas, Mrs. Branyon was a loving mother to her three children: Bill, Jill, and Mark Branyon; a proud grandmother of her three grandchildren: John, Jared, and Jordan Branyon; and a caring mother-in-law to her dear daughters-in-law: Kay and Susie Branyon; and
Whereas, she was well known for her ever-present and lively sense of humor, her many artistic talents, and her outstanding culinary skills; and
Whereas, a native of the State of Texas, Mrs. Branyon came to love her adopted State of South Carolina, particularly the beauty of the mountainous region of the Upstate; and
Whereas, she will always be remembered and sorely missed by her family, including her nieces, nephews, and her many friends; and
Whereas, it is with honor that the members of the South Carolina General Assembly pause to reflect on the rich life of Mrs. Mary Ruth Branyon. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
