A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 47-1-180 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT NO ANIMAL SHELTER IN THIS STATE MAY DONATE, SELL, OR TRANSFER A LIVING ANIMAL FOR ANIMAL RESEARCH.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Chapter 1, Title 47 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 47-1-180.    No animal shelter in this State may donate, sell, or transfer, a living animal to a person, facility, program, or corporation or any other entity, public or private, for animal research."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
