A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR THE MEMORY OF THE LATE MRS. DWYNELLE PRITCHARD "MISS NELL" BENNETT OF ST. GEORGE WHO DIED DURING THE LEGISLATIVE INTERIM AND TO EXPRESS THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly with deep regret have learned of the death during the legislative interim of one of South Carolina's most special citizens, Mrs. Dwynelle Pritchard "Miss Nell" Bennett of St. George; and

Whereas, Nell Bennett was a native of Georgia and in 1948 met and married Everett Wilson Bennett from South Carolina, and of this union three wonderful children were born: Elizabeth, Linda, and Everett, Jr.; and

Whereas, when Everett Bennett retired from the Air Force in 1954, they moved the family to Orangeburg and then to St. George. Together they owned and operated Bennett's Appliance Company in St. George for forty-two years, and the citizens of St. George have been blessed to have the Bennett family live and work in the St. George area; and

Whereas, Mrs. Nell was an active community, church, and civic leader in St. George always participating in activities beneficial to her community; and

Whereas, she was much beloved by all, especially the children and youth of the St. George area. She was a favorite "storyteller" at area schools and the library. She will always be "Granny Grits" to hundreds of area children because they believe that eating all those grits turned her hair white; and

Whereas, for eighteen years, she worked tirelessly on behalf of the World Grits Festival which is held annually in St. George and which stimulates pride in the town of St. George and surrounding communities and provides wholesome recreation and entertainment for area families; and

Whereas, with the death of this truly lovely lady, the people of St. George and South Carolina have lost a person of great beauty, humor, and charm who greatly enriched the lives of all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, honor the memory of the late Mrs. Dwynelle Pritchard "Miss Nell" Bennett of St. George who died during the legislative interim and express the deepest sympathy to her family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to her family.
