Whereas, this prestigious institution is ranked number 127 of the best high schools in the country by Newsweek survey, and the students score far above the state and national averages on the SAT. In 2005, two students had a perfect verbal SAT score, and one student had a perfect math SAT score; and

Whereas, 497 students amassing more than forty-three million dollars in scholarship offers have graduated from the Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities since 1994. Last year's class was offered nine million dollars in scholarships; and

Whereas, the school has won numerous Creative Writing National Scholastic awards, it has also won the national Nancy Thorpe Poetry competition, and was named one of the two most important School Dance Training Programs in the world at the Youth America Grand Prix international competition; and

Whereas, the faculty are among the top educators in their respective fields. Seventy-eight percent of them are National Board Certified, and a number of faculty members publish, exhibit, and perform not only statewide and regionally but nationally and internationally as well; and

Whereas, the school continues to educate some of South Carolina's most creative, talented, and academically advanced students instilling in them the fundamentals and training needed to help lead and serve our State and nation. Now, therefore,
