A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 30-4-70, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO MEETINGS WHICH MAY BE CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC UNDER THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT NO CHANCE MEETING MAY BE USED TO DISCUSS A MATTER WITHIN THE JURISDICTION OF A PUBLIC BODY.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 30-4-70(c) of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 423 of 1998, is further amended to read:

"(c)    No chance meeting, social meeting, or electronic communication may be used in circumvention of the spirit of requirements of this chapter to act upon a matter over which the public body has supervision, control, jurisdiction, or advisory power."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
