A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE HILTON HEAD PREPARATORY SCHOOL VARSITY GIRLS SOCCER TEAM ON ITS OUTSTANDING WIN OF THE 2006 SCISA CLASS AAA GIRLS SOCCER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND THEIR COACH, JIMMY LEPPERT, ON AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.

Whereas, excellence in soccer demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as team play and good sportsmanship; and

Whereas, using those talents and attributes, Coach Jimmy Leppert and the members of the Hilton Head Prep Girls Varsity Soccer Team capped an impressive 19-1 season by winning the 2006 SCISA Class AAA State Soccer Championship; and

Whereas, the team defeated Cardinal Newman to take home the state title, playing strong and keeping their momentum throughout the eighty-minute regulation match, twenty-minute overtime, and ten-minute sudden death; and

Whereas, exhibiting excellent form and spirit, team members encouraged each other to perform their best to secure victory for the school; and

Whereas, sophomore standout goalie Courtney Aiken was chosen MVP of the match after her one spectacular penalty kick save during regulation time and three historic saves during the final, match-deciding penalty kicks; and

Whereas, Kate Brunori scored a goal during regulation time and Catherine Callaway, Claire Noonan, and Alexandra Fuller scored penalty kicks; and

Whereas, other invaluable players included Lane Czura, Kathleen Blum, Elle Czura, Abby Fennessey, Colby Foss, Kelly Ruben, Chelsea Meccariello, Tania Bruderer, Maddie Rau, Chloe Hall, Katie Butler, Kim Zwerner, Christina Scott, and Rachel Blum; and

Whereas, during regular season play, the team scored a total of 76 goals and only allowed ten goals, making them the top-ranked team in the State for the number of goals made and allowed. Their amazing 19-1 record stands as the best overall record of any team, boys or girls, public or private, in the State; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives take great pride in commending the young women of the Hilton Head Prep Girls Varsity Soccer Team for their tireless efforts and great determination in an incredible season and recognize them as veritable model student athletes. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Hilton Head Preparatory School Varsity Girls Soccer Team on its outstanding 2006 SCISA Class AAA Girls Soccer State Championship, and honor the players and their coach, Jimmy Leppert, on an exceptional season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the players, coaches, and school officials of the Hilton Head Preparatory School Varsity Girls Soccer Team.
